Pump It!

In about a month, I'll be going back to work (so sad!). I need to start stock expressed breast milk. After being hidden away at the back of the cabinet for 8 months, I welcome back my old friend, the pump, my Philips Avent Isis Duo!
And so I started pumping this week. Usually, lactation consultants/counselors would advise to start pumping at 6 weeks. But I started at 5 weeks because I have a binyag to attend on Sunday and I'll be ninang! I'm not sure yet if I'll be bringing R with me.

My first pumping session yielded 4oz which made me so happy! I don't remember having this much milk before with Y. I pump once a day because R nurses almost every hour and I only get to pump when R naps during noon or at night when he sleeps longer.
I have now 23oz 27oz in the freezer! Yay!!! Will order mommy treats next week to boost my milk supply!

We're Home! And My Birth Story

I was supposed to give birth yesterday. We scheduled my operation 2 weeks ago, and supposed to go to see my OB on Wednesday to get my admitting order. But, nooooo.... That didn't happen!!!

Last Monday, I woke up with a gas pains in my tummy. I already thought of taking the day off to rest, so I slept hoping to pass gas and wake up feeling better but I didn't. I woke up with sharp pains in my right abdomen. I can't stand up or walk properly with the pain. So I called my OB to tell her about it and she told me to go to the hospital and I might be on labor already.

I told the BOS. We changed clothes. Brought my hospital bag (baby's bag wasn't even ready!!!) with us and went to the hospital and straight to the delivery room. I was expecting it to be nothing and will be released right after I was examined. I still had a list of things to buy the next day since it was a holiday, thinking I can still do a last minute shopping!

I changed into the hospital robe and was asked to wait. The maternity ward that day was busy! Operating rooms were full. When it was my turn, I lied down and they strapped me with this monitoring device. Nurses were asking me my medical history etc. When my OB came, she told the nurse, based on looking at the monitoring sheet, I was already on labor and contracting every 2 to 4 minutes! Say whattt?!! Then my OB did an IE, I hate this part, I was already 2cm. She said she had to take the baby out today. Say whattttt again?!

I wasn't ready. The hubby and I were really caught off guard. We were texting the whole time I was in the maternity ward since he can't go inside. I called my mom, amma, and texted some friends that I'll be giving birth na that day.

By 12:30PM, I was wheeled to the operating room. Dun na ako kinabahan. Good thing the nurse that was with me is chatty and funny. She put my IV, and asked me to lie down the operating bed (is that what you call it?) and wait for the anaesthesiologist. When he came, he put the epidural, which was painful by the way! And the next thing, I started to feel numb na. 23 minutes later, the baby was out!

Sayang we didn't bring our camera! We weren't able to document the birth. Good thing my OB has a camera and she always takes pictures of her patients after giving birth with the baby. Can't wait to see those!

The cleaning and closing me up took longer. I was getting inip na, buti they gave me more pain killers to let me fall asleep na. I slept for 2 hours I think in the recovery room, but since there was so many moms who gave birth that day, I was wheeled to my room at 5pm, which supposed be 4pm.

The BOS was waiting for me there. I rested for the first two days and didn't room in the baby. I don't know if it's just me but the sugat was more painful this time around. We roomed in the baby the 3rd day.
He's such a well-behaved baby. We slept so soundly in the hospital.

We had a hard time breastfeeding at first, he won't latch properly. He would cry out of frustration. So we sorted to cup feeding him with my achi's and achi's SIL's expressed breast milk. We brought the milk the first night anticipating something like this would happen, I asked the NICU not give him anything until I had milk or I would give them expressed breast milk. I had to make a waiver for that. Since the baby still won't latch, my achi gifted me with a lactation massage by Zenny Feliciano (another post on that, if I find the time to blog!), she came the 4th day before we were discharged from the hospital. The breast milk finally came out!
Now, we're home. R is already 1 week old! Ang bilis! We're exclusively breastfeeding. Breastfeeding was smooth sailing after Abbie came to see me at home! More on that too later!

For now, join my mid-year giveaway! :)

Must-Buy Breastfeeding Essential: Techni Ice

Last week, while I was going through my checklist, I saw that I haven't bought ice packs yet! My achi who's also breastfeeding (clap! clap!) also needs ice packs for when she's out and needs to pump.

All working moms who breastfeed and pump at work know that ice packs are one of the essentials to keep those precious breast milk cool while in the office or while in transit from the office to the house.

After I gave birth to Y, I bought my first Techni Ice from ebay.ph at Php250 for 1 sheet (of 12 small blocks). It served me well but after using and abusing it for about a year, it had tears and I had to to throw them away.

This time, I was supposed to buy again from the same ebay seller, then I remembered Michelle of My Mom Friday blogged about Techni Ice! And so I hopped over to her blog and checked out where she got it from! It was from Techiice.com.ph and then I saw this promo!!! Good thing I didn't because I was buying for achi too.
Buy 3 sheets for Php500 only plus get a mug for free! Shop here!

But note that it will be coming from Cebu. I thought I had it wrong at first pero tama pala. Shipping was Php120. Everything was done online, very easy! Shipping took 2 days.
I was so happy when I opened the package and the ice sheets were bigger than the first ones I bought before! 24 blocks in 1 sheet. Size is about 11x16 inches. Super sulit for Php500 for 3 sheets na! Hurry their promo is until June only!

One Word of Breastfeeding Advice

"Welcome to the Milk Mama Diaries Carnival (February). For this month, we focus on back to basics. Participants will share advices - either the best breastfeeding advice they received OR/AND the best breastfeeding advice they can give to new moms.  Please scroll down to the end of the post to see the list of carnival entries."

Every new mom is clueless about breastfeeding. I've read books on breastfeeding, attended breastfeeding classes when I was pregnant with Y, but when Y was given to me to breastfeed the very first time, even with all the information I  have, I didn't know what to do! But! I didn't give up. I sought out advices from friends and consulted Abbie Yabot.

From all of those advices, I think the best advice I can give to new breastfeeding moms would be: HAVE TRUST.

Trust your body.New moms often doubt they would have milk when and after they gave birth. Your milk may not have milk right after you give birth, trust your body!
Always remember that all moms have milk and most babies don't get hungry the first few days. Trust your body that it will produce milk for your baby!

Trust your milk. When I started breastfeeding Y, my family doubted my breast milk. My husband was my one and only supporter. But that didn't stop me from breastfeeding, I knew that my milk was the best nutrition I could give my child. No water, supplement  I never doubted my milk's capacity to nourish your child.  Don't worry about your baby's weight, breastfed and formula-fed baby's weight are different. Breast milk is the best for your baby!

Have the people around you TRUST you and your milk.
Support is important to any breastfeeding mom. Moms need all the confidence especially the first two weeks of breastfeeding from the dads, grandparents to the siblings, in-laws! Good and positive vibes only!

Breastfeeding takes a lot of work and patience. Having trust helped me a lot during breastfeeding Y. Now that I'm pregnant with my second baby, I can't wait to breastfeed again!

Pumping while Traveling... HK Style!

Before I blog about my trip to HK, I have to blog about this first!!! This is a major accomplishment for me!

I DID IT! 60oz of expressed breast milk in four days. I know it's not as much, but I did it! Now I have an emergency stash of breast milk!

Pumping while traveling is a whole new challenge (next to saving milk stash for Y for this trip) for me! I'm used to pumping everyday at work but it's different when you have to pump on the go, in public, while traveling. I pumped in the airport, on the plane
(with the Azkals a few seats away from me) and on the bus. It was a whole new experience! Pumping while making sure my nursing bib stays on its place, my boob not showing and checking if I need to switch sides is not easy I tell ya! But I gotta do, what I gotta do!

On the first day I brought my pump everywhere I go but I didn't get to pump in public so I didn't bring my pump with me anymore. We go back to the hotel every three to four hours so I just pump when I get back to the hotel. I tried to pump round the clock but I always have issues when pumping during the wee hours of the morning. I did that on the first night but couldn't produce any milk, I've always been that way even when I tried doing that at home. I guess my body is not used to that. So the next few days, I didn't set my alarm,
I usually have five to six hours of sleep, so I just pump when I wake up.

About two weeks before I left, I started collecting things I had to pack and bring with me. I read up a month before my trip (blog post here). Then I came upon Didi's blog post on her pumping while traveling, it inspired me that I emailed her how she did it, we exchanged emails, chatted over YM, she gave me tips and was so nice to offer her mobile number so I can text her when I have more questions!

Ok, here are the things I brought:

1. Manual pump - for pumping on the go
2. Electric pump - for pumping in the hotel
3. Cooler - I used what I have at home, a Thermos cooler bag.
4. Insulating bag - where I put the pump and bottles while on the go
5. Ice Packs - I brought 2 Techni-Ice for the cooler and 2 small ice packs for my insulating bag for everyday use
6. 2 4oz Avent bottles
7. 1 Box of Nanny milk bags
8. Nursing cover
9. Alcohol, hand sanitizer and wet wipes
10. 4 freezer bags, 3 ziplocks - the biggest size
11. Liquid soap and small sponge - I brought Messy Bessy's Dishwashing Soap for cleaning the sink before washing pump parts
12. A sachet of Cradle bottle cleanser
13. Chicco Sterilizing Liquid
14. Lock & Lock plastic container - I used this for soaking and washing the pump, pump parts, and bottles
15. Bottle brush
16. List of places in HK where I can pump in case we'll be out for a long period (Thank you Didi for giving me the link!) Print this and keep it in your bag at all times!
17. A doctor's note saying that I'm expressing breast milk for my baby.

Here's what I did and some tips!

- I pumped every 3 to 4 hours. We stayed in Hong Kong side and pretty much went around Causeway Bay, North Point, Central, and Mong Kok only. All were near and just less than 30 minutes away from our hotel so every 3 to 4 hours was doable without me having to lug around my pump.
- After I pump, I immediately transfer my expressed breast milk to milk bags. I put 4oz per milk bag so it won't be bulky. I immediately put it in our hotel room's ref. It was cold enough to store my milk. You can opt to have it stored and chilled (DO NOT FREEZE) in the hotel ref.
- The hotel I stayed in gladly stored my milk on the last day as well as freeze my ice packs. The woman I talked to said that a lot of their guests do this too so they know how to handle expressed BM. I labeled the ziplocks with the room number and instructions.
- When I had my BM stored with the hotel's ref, I doubled the ziplocks just to be sure. You don't know what else is in their ref that may contaminate your milk.
- A night before our last day, I had my Techi Ice along with my 2 small ice packs frozen with the hotel's freezer too.
- I washed my breast pump and bottles at the end of the day before I go to sleep. I soak my pump, pumps parts and bottles in Cradle bottle cleanser (freebie from a bazaar/expo), washed and rinsed. Then soak them again in the Chicco Sterilizing Liquid that I brought, washed and rinsed again. All are washed in warm water and I left them to dry overnight.

 - Here's how I packed my expressed milk the last day before I packed it in my luggage and checked it in.
Two Techni Ice on the sides, ziplock in between plus my grandma's medicine
- My On-the-Go cooler looks like this. I used the one that came with my Avent breast pump. Two small ones. 1 with my manual breast pump and another with two 4oz bottles with 1 ice pack each cooler.
So there! I did it! 60oz of breast milk in 4 days, I'm so proud of myself! Pumping while traveling is possible! I wouldn't have this without the help of Jenny's blog, Glam-o-Mamas and Didi's! I'm so happy to be back home and nurse Y directly again!

P.S. My stored breast milk for Y while I'm away was also enough for her! Yay! She only got to drink 5oz of formula milk!

Self-Weaning Or Nursing Strike?

A big dilemma right now! Y won't take the bottle/sippy cup or her cup with my expressed BM during the day while I'm at work, which forced me to make her drink formula which she gladly drank! TEARS! :( But she would nurse from me when I'm at home. What's going on? Is she weaning? Will she go back drinking my expressed BM?

Moms? Any tips? Advice?

Preparing for My HK Trip

I'll be going to Hong Kong for a 4-day trip with my mom, aunt, and my brother but Y is not going with us. She's staying here with her papa. I haven't stored milk for Y yet for that trip! I supplement with formula milk whenever my supply is down, now I might supplement with formula during that 4-day trip or I could look for someone who's willing to donate her extra expressed milk but I don't think hubby is ok with that idea. So I'm still hoping I could save enough milk for her...

On the other hand, it will be my first time to express milk while traveling without a baby so I'm reading on how would I do it. I saw to blog post on this. I took notes already!

Here are the links! It might help you! :)
http://www.chroniclesofanursingmom.com/2010/07/tips-on-expressing-milk-while-traveling.html
http://glamomamas.com/2011/03/pumping-in-style/

I will definitely document this and give tips after the trip!

Eating My Words...

Am I finally going to eat my words? I've said and mentioned so many times in this blog that as much as possible I don't want to mix feed Y. (The BOS and) I want her to be strictly and exclusively breastfed. But I'm tempted to buy a can of formula (again!). My yaya called me this afternoon at around 5PM telling me that Y has no milk na. Need to go back to my previous routine and can't leave the house earlier than I did today!
These past few days:
- I'm having my period (Sorry, TMI!)
- Y's milk intake increased but I'm having milk supply problems once again and Y's feedings has been erratic because of her teething.
- I've been pumping every two hours in the office. But my supply still won't improve.
- I'm taking malunggay supplements and drinking fresh malunggay tea. Still no effect.
I already bought a box of Mother's Milk Tea. I'm planning to take Calcium/Magnesium supplement and fenugreek capsules. I hope my milk supply will increase once my period is finished.
Hay.. I can't afford to take another leave. I don't want my boss to think I'm slacking. I can't always just take a leave when Y has no enough expressed milk or else my leaves will be used up.
Am I finally going to eat my words?

What Have You Heard Lately?

Y is going thru growth spurt right now. Adding to that, Y is also teething. And once again, my milk supply can't keep up with Y's demand and again I'm a milking machine. I took the afternoon off from work last Friday so I can come home early, a sort-of nursing vacation. I was also pumping in between feedings, my nipples are starting to sore. I'm not complaining.

Every time I'm having a low milk supply dilemma, my mom would bug me into buying a can of formula milk or supplement with water. She would tell me to check what's the best formula in the market and buy it. Mommy, breast is best! I've gone through this about three times since I started working. And those three times don't you think I was tempted to buy a can of formula milk? I get stressed thinking if Y has enough milk until I get home. But every time I talk to my husband (He is a breastfed baby), he would say no and would just tell me to boost my milk supply, eat malunggay, order more Mommy Treats, or just take a day off and stay at home with Y. So yay for the BOS! :)

The other day, I took my Amma to get her flu vaccine. While waiting for the doctor, she asked me how long do I plan to breastfeed Y. I said as long as I have milk, I will continue to breastfeed. She told me (in Chinese): "Breastfeed her until she one and a half years old. That should be enough." Hmm... I just kept quiet because I don't want to go on discussing/arguing about breastfeeding with her. She might/won't understand my reasons. She didn't breastfeed my dad and his siblings. I might get nosebleed explaining breastfeeding to her LOL. Kidding aside, basta it's hard to explain it to her. But I wanted to tell her: "Amma, breastfeeding is best for babies up to two years and beyond!"

How do I deal with these? I know it's my mom and amma. But I have to brush them off and I hope they understand my stand on breastfeeding.

Top Ten Tips for Pumping and Working Moms

"Welcome to the Milk Mama Diaries Carnival (May). This carnival is dedicated to all moms, celebrating Mother's Day today. Participants will share various topics covering A Breastfeeding Mother's Top Ten List. Please scroll down to the end of this post and check out the other carnival participants."

It's been six months since I started working again after my maternity leave, six months since I started pumping at work. It was a big adjustment at first, but it eventually got better (and I got used to it).

To help other moms who are going back to work soon, here are my Top Ten Tips! (Note: This is based on my experience and my pumping situation in my office)

The Essentials
1. Buy a reliable breast pump.
Manual or electric, single or double, it's your choice. What I use (and would recommend) is a double electric breast pump. My pumping time with my breast pump takes around ten to fifteen minutes. I have a manual breast pump which I only use when I'm at home.
This is my pumping setup at the office.
I don't pump as much milk when using a manual except when my breasts are really engorged. Here's what I notice when I use a manual breast pump. When I pump my left breast, the right breast will leak, right? Now, one breast would take ten minutes, when I shift to the other breast, no more milk comes out or I can only pump so little. So I really prefer a double electric pump.

Additional tip: Research and read on about breast pumps before buying. Read reviews, forums, or ask your mommy friends who are using breast pumps. From there, choose the one that you like or suits your needs. My choices were down to the Medela Freestyle and Avent Isis Duo, and I bought the latter. It serves its purpose, I love my Avent!

2. Choose a storage system.
There's a lot of storage system that you can choose from. You can store milk in resealable storage bags, Avent Via Cups or feeding bottles. Your storage system will depend on your milk supply. I have all of the three storage containers but I haven't used the storage bags as my milk supply is just enough for Y's one day consumption. I'm using Avent Via Cups, Avent Feeding Bottles, and Breastflow Feeding Bottles.
What I like about the Via Cups is that they are stackable and Y can feed from it directly (by putting the adapter and teats). I can use them instantly as they are pre-sterilized (for first use). Now, I only use them to store Y's food. But the down side is I can only use it up to three times. The Avent feeding bottles are the most convenient, they fit my pump perfectly and Y can also feed from it directly. The Breasflow Feeding Bottles are my back-up.

Here's what I do with my milk. On weekdays, what I pump today is Y's milk for the next day. For Friday's milk, it's what she'll drink on Monday. Or when I go out, that's what her yaya feeds her. I pump on weekends too. Nowadays, it's rare for me to have extra milk to freeze, which is what the milk storage bags are for.

Remember, store milk at the back of your refrigerator. Not at the door. Refrigerated milk can be store up to seven days. After that, freeze your milk. Frozen milk can be stored up to two months. More info here.

Additional tip: Start pumping and storing milk two weeks before going back to work/your maternity leave ends. Pump milk enough for two to three days so you'll have a buffer or more so you'll not worry while you're at work if your stored milk is enough or when your baby is having a growth spurt (like what I'm experiencing now!).

3. Buy a cooler bag and ice packs.
I have the Igloo Cooler Bag. I bought it in SM Department Store (they got it all for you! Hehe). There's a lot of choices, style, design, and sizes. I got the middle size.
My ice packs: Techni Ice, Avent, Ice Packs from Babaymama
Buy ice packs for you cooler. I used to use two sheets of Techni Ice plus the Avent ice packs that came with the breast pump but I'm not satisfied. Then the Techni Ice got ripped, the Avent ice packs leaked! I don't know how it happened. So I bought Ice Packs from Babymama. Now I use one sheet of Techni Ice Dry Packs, four Nano Silver Ice, and one Blu Ice. They stay cool for about about ten hours. So far, so good!

Additional tip: You can opt to put your expressed milk in your office's/breastfeeding or pumping station's refrigerator (if you have one). Be sure to sealed it in a zip lock. Then freeze your ice packs in the freezer and just packed everything in your cooler before going home.

The Tips
4. Pump every two to three hours.
I set a pumping schedule for myself. My work hours is from 9AM to 7PM or depends if I come early or late. Flexi hours. But basically my pumping schedule is 930AM, 1230PM, 330PM, and 630PM. At home, I nurse directly. When my milk supply is low or when I want to boost my supply, I pump every two hours (depends on my work load for the day).
Le Sportsac for my pump, Igloo Cooler Bag, Nursing Mom Changing Pad
Note: Notify your boss/bosses know that you'll be pumping every three hours everyday. And I hope your boss/bosses is as understanding as mine. Also, strictly follow your schedule and don't go beyond four hours without pumping. It might result to engorged breasts or may affect your milk supply.

5. Wear comfortable and easily accessible clothes for pumping.
You can wear button downs, nursing tops, or other whatever clothes that is accessible for pumping. Sometimes I wear a nursing bra, sometimes I just wear a normal bra.

6. Sanitize!
Bring alcohol, soap, tissue, and hand towel when you pump. Have a kit with all these inside. Always wash hands with soap and water before pumping! Or with alcohol when there's no accessible water or sink.
Tissue, Alcohol, Hand Soap
After pumping, as for your pump parts and bottles, I don't clean it every after use. What I do is just put them in a zip lock and put it back in my cooler. I sterilize it at the end of the day at home. But if you want to clean it after use, you can use breast pump wipes to clean every after use or use a microwave steam bags to sterilize.

Additional tip: I use my extra changing mat (see above picture) as my "sapin" for the breast pump and bottles. Since I pump in a not so ideal place, I opt to do this for extra sanitation.

7. Relax, watch a movie!
When pumping, don't feel pressured or stressed by how many would you be able to pump. Relax! :) Don't time your pumping session. Have picture of your baby with you, and think of her nursing from you, happy thoughts! That helped me. I play the photos of Y in a slide show on my phone, sometimes videos of her too. And for a change, sometimes I play movies on my phone while pumping.
8. Label your expressed milk.
After pumping, label your expressed milk with date and time. And follow FIFO order when feeding your baby.
9. Record baby's feedings and feeding time.
At home, I have a notebook that I ask my yaya to write Y's feedings and feeding time. I keep track on how many ounces of breast milk Y drinks while I'm the office. BUT don't base your milk output from this. I personally do this just to keep track of Y's feedings.

10. Eat well and Hydrate!
Breastfeeding or not, it's always important to eat well and eat healthy. Well, sometimes I cheat with my diet. Hehe! I eat five times a day, not so heavy meals and snacks in between. Don't try dieting! I tried and my milk supply dipped. Drink to thirst! Always dehydrate yourself!

And before I end this long post, advice to mommies, breastfeeding or pumping. Patience and perseverance are keys! Don't give up when your milk supply is low. Supplement with malunggay, fenugreek or with Mommy Treats if you must. Don't equate what you pump to how much your baby is getting from the breast. Nursing your baby directly is still the best!

Happy Mother's Day!!!!

Out of Sync

Today is not a great day.

I was totally out of sync this morning. I don't know why. I got my car bumped hard by a pedicab. It was sort of my fault. As I've mentioned, I was out of sync. I guess I steered to early o what, I don't know. There's a big dent and a hole at the back fender. Yikes! I've yet to tell my parents. I didn't bother to go down the car because I was in a small street with tambays, and I don't want to be mulled by usiseros, so I just left, sort-of hit and run. I didn't see the damage until I got to the office. Ughhh...

During my morning pumping session, I noticed I forgot to bring an extra via cup in my pumping bag. Out of sync! Kainez. I have to ask BOS to come all the way here in the office just to bring me that extra via cup.

I thought maybe because I didn't get my morning (decaf) coffee fix. I want to avoid drinking caffeine. But sometimes I have to, or not I won't be able to work properly. But it's still not it. Maybe it's because of the new yaya. I have to blog about that.

And then this afternoon, I called home to check on Y. Our helper told me that there's only 2oz of my milk left. And that was around 4PM! I won't be home until 7:30PM! Waahhh... I don't have a back-up formula at home! She's eating twice a day now. She was eating when I called. I was going to buy a small can of formula this afternoon but BOS won't let me. He told me to take a leave tomorrow instead. Let's see.. maybe I need to add one more pumping session at home because currently I don't. I nurse Y directly when I get home. Need to take malunggay capsules again! I got lazy taking the capsules.. I think it's time to order another 2-week supply of Mommy Treats!

One good thing: Y's done with her Heraclene!

The Breasts and Me!

"Welcome to the first Milk Mama Diaries Carnival (March). To celebrate National Women's Month, our participants share how breastfeeding has changed them as a woman. Please scroll down to the end of this post and check out the other carnival participants."

Breastfeeding has been such a wonderful experience. I'm still breastfeeding Y, who's now six and a half months already! I never thought I would reach this far, let alone breastfeeding. No one in my family did thought I would last this long. My mom was not supportive at first, because we were all formula-fed, but now she is. I think she did her own research, she now also encourages my younger sister to breastfeed her baby. Now my goal is to breastfeed Y until she's a year old.
Four-day Old Y
When I was pregnant, I read a lot on breastfeeding. I bought books, read kellymom, forums, and blogs, and even attended a LLL (La Leche League) meeting. I was gearing up myself for this new chapter I was going to embark. Breast pumps, nursing wear, nursing cover, nursing bras... all those stuff.

I thought I was all ready but... nope! I was not! Well, actually I was ready, I already anticipated the pain, the waking up in wee hours of the morning, the fussy baby. What I was not ready for was the change of my breast size! (Yeah, my breast became bigger during pregnancy but all I was worried and thinking about was the baby inside my belly.) Now, it's a size and cup bigger than my pre-pregnancy bra size! (And yeah, I read about the breast size will be bigger when breastfeeding) Ok, I always have small breasts. I was happy I didn't have big boobs because I don't have to worry about the clothes I wear (cause there's nothing to see) or if guys are oggling at it. Nowadays, I have to think about those! I miss my small breasts. But I'm not complaining! I'm used it now and big boobs means I have milk and that's good!

With the change, and since I haven't gone back to my pre-pregnancy weight yet (Kelan kaya?), my clothes don't fit anymore. Some do fit but it's fitted on the chest area, and so the need (emphasize on the NEED! LOL!) for new clothes! My shopping style now is different unlike before. Now, I have to consider if I can nurse when I wear it. The style choices are limited for normal clothes. Yes, there are nursing wear available but I haven't found anything that I like (one that fits my style and would go well with my current wardrobe, yes I'm maarte that way too!). I hope I find something soon because we're starting to take Y out, and of course I have to feed her while we're out. I may be comfortable popping my breasts out at home but not in public, the BOS would kill me if I do that! Haha! And I think I need to buy a proper nursing top or dress.

Buttondowns are the way to go.
I can't breastfeed in this. I didn't bring Y with me, hence the outfit!

Back to topic.. Still, I like to shop! Now I'm more excited and look forward on Expo Mom, any mom fairs, and Baby Fairs than the Rockwell Urban Bazaar! I like going thru toy stores than Topshop or Zara. Ok, I still like going to Topshop and Zara but I think about buying for Y first before me. And that's a change! Haha! Now, I'm beginning to be obsessed with baby gears, baby toiletries, cleaning stuff, feeding utensils, cloth diapers, baby slings.. anything and everything for Y! Who isn't an OC mom?! Right? And given that my baby is girl, it's more fun to dress them up than baby boys! That means more shopping for Y than me! LOL! I'm not complaining (really!) because there's still the joy of shopping! Haha!

Breastfeeding is my bonding time with Y. I'm a working mom so I only get to see her in the morning before I go to work and when I come home at night, she's already sleeping. I nurse her whenever I could. I was never close to my mom as a child, we are closer now, but wished we were close when I was young. I want to be close to Y and to my future daughters or sons, I hope breastfeeding is a step to that. Breastfeeding is my best gift to Y.

Breastfeeding has changed me a lot, not only physically or on the shopping side. It taught me to be more patient. It made me stronger and confident It has made me appreciate other breastfeeding moms and soon-to-be moms who's decided to breastfeed too! Breast is best! I'm really thankful that the BOS opened my eyes to breastfeeding. It really makes me proud that I made the decision to do it. It really is a commitment! And as time passes, I became passionate about breastfeeding, even considered to be trained as a lactation counselor! I'm still considering it when my schedule permits. I want to encourage other women to breastfeed, I want to inspire. I guess the whole experience changed me as a person, as a woman, as a wife, and of course as a mom.
