Our Baby Led Weaning Adventure Starts!

R started eating solids 2 weeks ago. We're trying baby led weaning/feeding with him. I read about this when Y was still a baby but I chickened out trying it with her. Lack of confidence din siguro. But this time with R, I wanted to try it. With Y being so picky with what she eats and used to eating lugaw that she doesn't like to chew her food now, lunok lang ng lunok! Hay... ka-stress minsan pakainin but that's another blog entry!

When I saw Jenny's E holding his food and feeding himself at 7 months old, nakakatuwa at nakakaaliw! So two weeks before R turned 6 months old, I read and researched and asked Jenny questions hehe. (I read this
: http://www.babyledweaning.com/) I asked Jenny if she follows the 3-day rule, she didn't. But I followed just to be sure! And his first food? Avocados!
He's still too small for his high chair (very sulit high chair which I got on sale!), as you can see, that he had a hard time reaching for his food so we're waiting for my sister's Bumbo. He loved the avocados! He was mashing it in his hands then he sucks his fingers hehe! It was really amusing to watch him eat by himself.
But the next feeding when we fed him carrots then potatoes, he didn't like it that much. To BLW mommas, is this normal? I really have no idea too! We're slowly learning all this and I will ask Jenny again after the holidays. Now we're trying apples, bananas, pears and I'll buy more veggies this weekend!
Ang cute!!!!
He still can't sit by himself without support. He's very curious about everything right now, eats everything his hands can hold but not food. So we're feeding him every other day muna until he turns 7 months old which is in less than 2 weeks. Ang bilis!
Any tips?

My 7-Month Old Little Tigress

Y is turning seven months tomorrow! How time REALLY flies so fast. Last year this time, I was four months pregnant. Now, she's this little tigress who rule our jungle.
She has now ate carrots, sayote, sweet potatoes, and potatoes. Next week will be squash! She'll now eat twice a day and then we'll start fruits. She's very active now, she starting to crawl, she stands when she can hold onto something, she can sit without support, she babbles a lot, smiles and laughs to people she knows! She only cries when she's not familiar with a place or a person.
She's on a I-only-want-mommy phase, I love it but it's heartbreaking to leave her every morning before going to work.

I'm in the process of planning her birthday/baptismal. I've been talking to suppliers and looking for themes in the internet. I'm going crazy! It's still 5 months away, but I want to plan early so I won't rush. I haven't started anything yet but I'm stressed about it already. Hope to finalize something this week!

Y turning seven months is also a milestone for me! Exclusively breastfeeding and pumping for seven months now and still going and no planning of weaning yet! Never been so proud of myself! Yey!

Happy Seven Months, Y! Don't grow up so fast! :D Papa and Mommy loves you!

1st day of March!

It's already March! Time flies really fast! A lot of things are happening this month. Milestones, adventures, and a little mishap.

Y is going to start to eat solids this month. This month will mark my 6th month on exclusively breastfeeding Y. A blog carnival. The little mishap that I hope would be settled soon. A new yaya. And I think there will be whole lot more!

A new chapter for Y, me, and the B.O.S.!

Can't wait!

Solids and Baby Led Weaning

Next month, Y will turn 6 months old. That means she will start eating solids! And that means I have to prepare and research everything I need to know about preparing and feeding solids to Y. There's so much information out there! (Which reminds me, I have The Baby Book by Dr. Sears and Dr. Spock's Baby and Child Care. Must read that!) I also asked fellow moms what they fed their babies when they started eating.
But first. babies must show signs that they are ready to start solids. Here's a rundown of the signs: (According to the LLL website)

  • he is about six months old
  • he can sit up without any support
  • he continues to be hungry despite more frequent nursing which is unrelated to illness or teething
  • he has lost the tongue-thrusting reflex and does not push solids out of his mouth
  • he can pick up things with his finger and thumb (pincer grasp)
I'm firm on not feeding Y with Cerelac (though I love eating Cerelac up until today! LOL.) or Gerber. Base on what I have read, Cerelac and Gerber can make your baby become picky eaters. I certainly don't want Y to be picky. Natural food all the way. Now, a friend of my sister texted me this:
5 1/2 months old: Feed milk via spoon once a day AM para ma-practice
6 months old: Plain rice cereal. Introduce one (kind) food at a time and wait for four days before introducing another. (What you can feed her) Squash, potato, sweet potato, carrots, sayote, banana, applesauce, papaya, peaches, green papaya, broth
Around 8-9 months: Meat, brocolli, cauliflower, asparagus, green beans, spinach
Around 10-12 months: Yogurt and egg
I think this is a pretty good guide. Another food guide that I saw was from wholesomebabyfood.com:

Halfway through reading and researching, I still don't know what to feed Y first. And then I remember I read an article about avocados as an ideal first food. I think I also read in Jenny fed Naima avocados as her first food if I'm not mistaken. Why avocados?
From wholesomebabyfood:
Avocados are often called one of nature's perfect foods because they are said to contain everything a person needs to survive.
The unsaturated fats it contains are good for baby's brain developmentas well as their central nervous system.
Its smooth texture is perfect as well as being nutritious. Avocados contain no salt or cholesterol, but do contain iron, potassium, fibre and vitamin E.
I hope avocados will be in season next month! :) Can't wait!

While we're on the subject on feeding solids, I also have read about baby led weaning. Baby led weaning simply means letting a child feed themselves and skipping the purees. Can I mix baby led weaning and feeding her? I can't wait to feed her but I'm also curious to see what Y will do if I decided on baby lead weaning. Hmmm... I still have a month to decide. A month to research, to buy whatever I need to buy.
