Baby Gaga - Breastmilk Ice Cream!

Breastmilk Ice Cream! Would you dare? Interesting? Yuck? Gross? Ano ba? Hindi ko din alam!
A restaurant/ice cream parlor in London is now serving breastmilk ice cream. It costs £14 (roughly Php980)!

Victoria Hiley, who provided the first 30oz of breastmilk was enough to make the first 50 servings. Her milk was pasteurized first before churning it with Madagascan vanilla pods and lemon zest.
There are 14 more moms who are willing to donate their milk and health checks on the lactating women are the same used by hospitals to screen blood donors.
Hiley added:

It wasn't intrusive at all to donate - just a simple blood test. What could be more natural than fresh, free-range mothers milk in an ice cream?'
Victoria works with women who have problems breast feeding their babies.
She said she believes that if adults realise how tasty breast milk actually is, new mothers will be more willing to breast feed their own newborns.
'You can kid yourself that its a healthy ice cream!' said Victoria.

Maybe I'll make ice cream out of my breastmilk but for Y's consumption lang.
Uhm.. Are you gaga over it? Thoughts?

Cuteness!

Hello Kitty Blindbox Series 3, that is! Y, you're still the cutest, don't worry! :) I got giddy when I saw these!
I love Hello Kitty! I was browsing UO website this week. Doing last minute shopping for my sister. And I saw these!!! They are US $8 a pop. A bit pricey for a little vinyl figure but they are collectibles!!! Ipapamana ko yan kay Y! LOL! Seriously.

But I chose not to buy this series, the first and second series are cuter. I have six of the Series 2.

I have this both! I got two of the piggy.

I also have this three! Super duper cute!
But... if they go on sale, I will buy! LOL.

Happy Saturday!

Strolling!

Stroller talk, Mommies!

We're taking Y soon out so it was also time for me to go get a stroller for her. The B.O.S. like the Quinny Buzz, we were set on that even before Y was born. The Buzz is bulky and heavy, talking about 15 kilos and it's freakin' expensive! We used to lived in a condo with an elevator, so it was ok then. But now that we moved to our new place, fourth floor with no elevator, good luck sa pagbuhat ng 15 kilos! LOL. I also have to consider the size when it's folded, if it can fit the trunk of a car. Buzz is not really ideal for us so sorry, B.O.S.! No Buzz for us! I was planning to get it from the US, buy it in Amazon and have it shipped via Forex. I've seen moms pushing this stroller and they look so angas! Haha.. Well, no angas for me. Buzz = E-X-P-E-N-S-I-V-E!

Then I met Combi. I saw Combi Miracle Turn at Daphne's blog, I read that it was easy to maneuver, lightweight, and the handles are reversible. Unlike the Buzz where you have to reverse the seat so that the baby can face me. It's less expensive than the Buzz, it's a Japanese brand. Though it's made in China. (Ain't all?) I was supposed to get the Combi Miracle Turn DX, the newer model, last January but they were all out of stock at all Hobbes and Landes and Rustan's. This is not available in SM. The SA from Hobbes and Landes said he will text me if it ever became available again. I got a text but it was the Miracle Turn lang, ayaw ko! There are only two colors. It's either of the two lang. It's only 6.35 kilos! Perfect sana kaso walang stock! Hindi na ako umasa. Not meant to be.
Emerald Green
Amethyst Purple
I was supposed to get this color.
When I went to the SM Grand Baby Fair last January, there was an Aprica booth. I only saw Aprica in Rustan's and Youji & Me in GB5. Not much selection so I was surprised to see there was Aprica at the fair plus it has quite a selection of strollers, carriers and car seats. My eyes zoomed in to this cute polka-dotted stroller. Love at first sight! I love everything. I was thinking of buying it na but held back, it was on 10% off plus a free Avent Blender I think.. (They are distributed by the same company that distributes Avent in the Philippines, if I'm not mistaken) Ughh,, thinking about it, wish I bought it na back then.

Aprica Laura Co Co Chi
It looks similar to the Miracle Turn DX noh?
Fast forward two weeks ago, we were in SM Makati shopping kitchen and bathroom stuff. We passed by Baby Company because I was also looking for a booster seat for Y. Then we saw the Aprica strollers! I told my mom that that was what I saw during the fair. I asked the SA if they have the polka-dotted one, they did! I still held back, because the kurips in me wants to check out if I can buy this in the US para cheaper. No luck. I can't find it in Amazon. The websites I mostly checked out were from Singapore, Thailand or Australia. Maybe the stroller is for Asian market only. Anyways, my mom said to buy it na. And we did! :) It's lighter pa than the Combi, it's 6.1 kilos lang. The handles are also reversible, I like the sun-shade, it's easy to maneuver! It has two other colors but I really really like the one we bought.

The stroller is still in its box haha. Can't wait to bust it out for Y to use it. I hope it's soon! She'll be six months next week! Y's stroller is adorbs! Just like her!

La Leche League Meeting Tomorrow!

Last minute post!
There will be a La Leche League Meeting tomorrow (February 26) in Makati. Now on its new home, Mothercare GB5 from 11AM - 1230PM. Please pre-register by emailing Abbie Yabot or texting your name, EDD or baby's age, email add and contact number to +639228292268.
I want to go! But not sure, I have a dentist appointment tomorrow. If it finishes early, maybe I'll go. Need to ask the B.O.S. first!
See you there!

Y's Another First!

This happened yesterday, and this one is for the books! I have to blog about it so I'll be able to tell Y when she's bigger.

Yesterday we went out. We didn't go to a mall. We went to visit my sister who just gave birth. She specifically requested for me to bring Y along so she can meet her cousin G officially. They will go home to the province that afternoon. I was so excited kasi yun na yung pinaka-malayong mararating ni Y. We haven't taken her out to any malls, hanggang sa pedia lang.

When we got to my BIL and sister's house, Y is still okay. She's observing and looking around. We saw G for a quick second then the mom, dad, SIL and BIL all came at once to the living room. Y is still quiet but not smiling, not her usual mood. Then the MIL came to me and wanted to carry Y so I let her. Y's face started to change, humihikbi na. So cute! Then she let the SIL carry Y, yun na! Y cried! As in! She became all red and cried so loud na hindi na siya tumigil. Nangilala! Everyone was laughing kasi ang cute cute nya kahit umiiyak. I just take her downstairs to calm her down. But every time she sees the MIL, she'll start to cry. Hay Y! You're growing up na! We need to take you out more!

Still on Yaya Woes!

My yaya came back yesterday BUT she told me later last night that she'll go home next month and won't come back na. Waaaahhhhh! I think I jinxed my yaya by my last blog post! :( I like her pa naman! Oh well.. She said it's because of her son. (Sabi ko na nga ba!) I know I shouldn't be surprised because I am already expecting something like this but not so soon! Adjusted na ako sa kanya, now I have to find her replacement then teach everything (to the new yaya) all over again.

It's still a month away.. I hope she'll change her mind. :(

It's a vicious cycle! Ugh!

Yaya Woes (Sort-Of) and Mommy Duties

This is supposed to be posted in Friday (2/18/2011):

My new yaya (1 month) is going home to the province tonight because her son is sick. Ito na nga ang sinasabi ko. She got her salary in advance and I told her not to spend it all while she's in the province baka wala na siyang pamasahe pabalik! She is coming back on Sunday. Well, I hope she does! Crossed fingers!!! She's good with Y. She more matiyaga feeding Y during the day, she plays with her, she reads to her. My only fear is that Y will get attached to her yaya than me.
Since the yaya is going to the province tonight, I came to work early so I can leave early so she can leave early also. I'm on "full" mommy duties tomorrow until Sunday! More bonding time for me and Y. Yay! It's been a while since I took "full" mommy duties with Y, with the moving, work, and whatnots. I was hands on with Y on her first two months, then I wento back to work. Mommy needs to work. "Full" meaning super hands on with Y. I'm excited!

2/19/2011
Update: So far so good! :) I wish I can spend time with her like this everyday! She's still napping. Get to sneak a post!

Too cute!

This was sent to me by my sister while I was at work yesterday. Too cute!

Hi Little Y!
My other sister gave birth this morning thru C-section! Welcome to the world Little G! :) Y, you're an achi na!

Having a Look Around..

Since I wasn't able to look around Forever21 when I was at Megamall two weeks ago, I just went to their website and have a look around! Never hurts to window shop! :)

Fashion resolution: Wear more pants!
Joining the leopard trend bandwagon!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this jacket! I hope it's available here!
Since I can't fit into my pre-pregnancy pants yet, and I love harem pants, drawstring harems would be perfect!
Harems pants again! And I totally love this look! :) Wish I'm that thin though!
Maxi Skirt! I remember I have a Benetton Maxi Skirt which I bought in '98!

Poncho with a hoodie! Perfect to hide my flabs in that loose top.

Maxi Dress. Not for our weather in Manila.
Pretty lace top!
SHOE LOVE!

This caught my eye! :)
I hope I can go back to my pre-pregnancy weight and to have a semi-flat tummy again! Libre mangarap! LOL! Oh, and Forever21 is going to open soon in SM Makati. Yay!

Updates.

This week has been a busy week at work, busiest and most productive I think from the one year two months that I've been working there. It was tiring. I'm not complaining because it is exactly what I've been waiting for. And I'm learning. I think that's the most important. Next week will also be busy!

At home, I've got more responsibility now. I woke up early today to go to palengke. I don't do this before while I was living with my parents. I go to the grocery to buy my meats and vegetables while we were still living in a condo near a mall, before we move to the place where we are currently staying. Everything is at my expense. And it was hard for me to budget because we moved thrice in a year span! The expenses were different. I hope by next month or two. I'll be able to do our budget at home.

There's still a lot of things we need to buy for the house. Small things for the kitchen, like containers for the utensils, organizing racks for the drawers. Need to go to SM soon! I have to call Sharp's service center to have our TV wall mounted. Our phone line is pending approval. And it will take a week before installation.

My helper will go on a day off later tonight and will be back on Monday. That means I have to cook tonight's dinner and tomorrow's food. I'm not ready with recipes. Yeah I'm like that. I need to follow a recipe.

My younger sister is due to give birth anytime soon. We're all very excited! Y's going to have a cousin, I'm going to be an aunt, and it's a boy! So we get to have a girl and boy! I hope Y and G will be close when they grow up.

Y's sleeping pattern has changed. She now wakes up at around five to five thirty in the morning! She has become my alarm clock! I usually wake up past six o'clock. Five is too early! Oh well. No worries I like waking up beside her, and smiles when she sees me.

That's all for now. Y will wake up soon from her nap!

Marie Claire and Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus is on the cover of Marie Claire (US) March 2011. I didn't recognize her! She looks so grown up and sophisticated. I watched her on Hannah Montana on Disney Channel, I like her song Party in the USA, that's about it and I don't really like her. But I like these photos of her!

Solids and Baby Led Weaning

Next month, Y will turn 6 months old. That means she will start eating solids! And that means I have to prepare and research everything I need to know about preparing and feeding solids to Y. There's so much information out there! (Which reminds me, I have The Baby Book by Dr. Sears and Dr. Spock's Baby and Child Care. Must read that!) I also asked fellow moms what they fed their babies when they started eating.
But first. babies must show signs that they are ready to start solids. Here's a rundown of the signs: (According to the LLL website)

  • he is about six months old
  • he can sit up without any support
  • he continues to be hungry despite more frequent nursing which is unrelated to illness or teething
  • he has lost the tongue-thrusting reflex and does not push solids out of his mouth
  • he can pick up things with his finger and thumb (pincer grasp)
I'm firm on not feeding Y with Cerelac (though I love eating Cerelac up until today! LOL.) or Gerber. Base on what I have read, Cerelac and Gerber can make your baby become picky eaters. I certainly don't want Y to be picky. Natural food all the way. Now, a friend of my sister texted me this:
5 1/2 months old: Feed milk via spoon once a day AM para ma-practice
6 months old: Plain rice cereal. Introduce one (kind) food at a time and wait for four days before introducing another. (What you can feed her) Squash, potato, sweet potato, carrots, sayote, banana, applesauce, papaya, peaches, green papaya, broth
Around 8-9 months: Meat, brocolli, cauliflower, asparagus, green beans, spinach
Around 10-12 months: Yogurt and egg
I think this is a pretty good guide. Another food guide that I saw was from wholesomebabyfood.com:

Halfway through reading and researching, I still don't know what to feed Y first. And then I remember I read an article about avocados as an ideal first food. I think I also read in Jenny fed Naima avocados as her first food if I'm not mistaken. Why avocados?
From wholesomebabyfood:
Avocados are often called one of nature's perfect foods because they are said to contain everything a person needs to survive.
The unsaturated fats it contains are good for baby's brain developmentas well as their central nervous system.
Its smooth texture is perfect as well as being nutritious. Avocados contain no salt or cholesterol, but do contain iron, potassium, fibre and vitamin E.
I hope avocados will be in season next month! :) Can't wait!

While we're on the subject on feeding solids, I also have read about baby led weaning. Baby led weaning simply means letting a child feed themselves and skipping the purees. Can I mix baby led weaning and feeding her? I can't wait to feed her but I'm also curious to see what Y will do if I decided on baby lead weaning. Hmmm... I still have a month to decide. A month to research, to buy whatever I need to buy.

Happy 5 Months, Y!

Dear Y,
You're 5 months already. How time flies! You now can rollover by yourself, bubbles your saliva, laughs a lot, and can sit with support. I'm super happy and proud of you, my baby! And I love that you're such a happy baby. I'm sorry if mommy and papa can't be with you 24/7. We are doing the best we can to provide the best for you. Please don't get too much attached to your yaya cause mommy will cry.
I love you, Y! I'm looking forward to our future stories, adventures, and mishaps!
Love,
Mommy

I Want..

to try KFC's Double Down! I know, I know, it's fast food, it's not healthy.. but I really really want to try this even just once. LOL.

Would you? Have you?

Sanrio Baby

I love Sanrio characters especially Hello Kitty! So there's no doubt that Y would be a Sanrio baby. I'm curious though what character she'll like! But right now, me, my mom and my sister will be the one to buy her cute Sanrio stuff! Yay!

Here's what my mom and sister bought for Y:

Hello Kitty Bowl (at 50% off) and Sugarbunnies Spoon & Fork!
Cute! But it will be awhile before Y gets to use them.
How cute are they? I can't wait for Y to use them! Maybe the bowl I can use when she starts to eat solid. :)

And, before I end this post, another outfit shot!

Denim Shift Dress - Archive Clothing; Leggings - H&M; Flats - Sanuk
You will get to see alot of leggings from my outfits because it's all that fits me now! LOL! Need to lose weight!!!

That's all.

Not So ME Time!

Long overdue entry...

I haven't had a ME time ever since I gave birth, ME time means me doing stuff ALONE like getting a pedicure, eating by myself, or shopping alone. I love spending time with Y, don't get me wrong! But I also sometimes need a breather.

Last Saturday, I had a not so me time. But pwede na din LOL! I went to the SM Grand Baby Fair. Since I live in the north area, I left the house extra early cause traveling time from my house to SM Megamall is about an hour. I'm supposed to leave around 9AM but Y woke up early, I gave her a bath, fed her, ate my breakfast and I left at around 10AM.

Yes, I live somewhere where the PNR passes.

My Marc Jabobs Bag, Igloo Cooler Bag, Mommy Treats, and Iphone
Megamall, at last!
I got to Megamall pass 11AM. No traffic! That's fast considering where I live. I pumped milk first before I went inside the mall. Not my favorite thing to do when I'm out but I need to! TMI sorry.

Here's my experience at the SM Grand Baby Fair. I got there early enough so there was not much shoppers yet. There's so much stuff! I didn't know where to start! The marked down prices are hard to resist. I saw this Pigeon Sippy Cup that's 50% off, I was so tempted to buy, my cart was even full by the time I got to the check out counters but I had to hold myself because Y doesn't need it yet and I was shopping on a budget. I also had the pleasure of meeting the owners of Mamaway and Next9 and Jenny of Fabnaima.

Entrance

Avent Booth
Freebies!

I bought their Jar of Hope and Jar of Love!
More freebies!

By the time I finished checking out all the booths and made my way to the check out counter, the line was SO LOONNGGG... but it was moving so I didn't really mind. Well I did mind pala cause I was hungry na! I edited my cart at the counter, then paid for my stuff.

Chaos at the cashier!
I got a swag bag plus I also got my Mom card! Happy me! But also hungry me! I haven't been to SM Megamall for a long time so I didn't know where to eat. So, I just went to The Atrium and decided to eat at Brother's Burger! Burgers were cooked as you order so I had wait!

This was my lunch. Delicious! Wanna go back again soon!
Since I was already in Megamall, I had to drop by Forever21! The Baby Fair was an excuse, Forever21 talaga ang pakay ko sa Megamall. LOL! Joke lang. Baby Fair talaga purpose ko. I didn't get to try anything because I was in a hurry and I got so overwhelmed with so much stuff I just had to leave. Haha! I spotted a nice oxfords though. I shall return soon! Before I left, I bought Bubble Tea for the BOS and me. Royal Milk Tea for the both of us.

Bubble Tea!

I was supposed to drink it at home with BOS but I can't wait na. LOL!
So, I had it in the car.
Before I end this post, this was my loot last Saturday at the Baby Fair.

Next9's Tushy Wushy Cloth Diapers, Mamaway Bra, Indigo Baby Jar of Hope and Jar of Love, Pigeon Nipples plus the Baby Fair Swag Bag!
What's inside the swag bag? From what I remember: Ceelin Drops, Avent Breast Pads, Pigeon Breast Pads, kiddie Magazine, Lactacyd Baby plus a rubber ducky, Playtex Drop-ins, Cetaphil sample, and a lot more!

And what I wore that day!

Black Oversize Shirt - Heather Miss Grey; Leggings - H&M; Oxfords - Cole Vintage; Bag - Marc Jacobs
Now, back to moving day. Happy Wednesday!
